About

The Art for Music project bridges the gap between my passion for art and my respect for the mavericks of music. I use colors and irregularities to capture the power and intensity of the music itself.  The end product is not a prudent image but can be seen as a history of ideas that stem from expressionist painters, California Funk art, and assemblage artists of the 50s.  It is my hope that even if the audience doesn't know who they are looking at, the painting will be interesting enough in presence that they will inquire about the musician.

These pieces are meant to be viewed in all lighting conditions. It is an added benefit, that under low light conditions of the evening these paintings come to life in their full potential, revealing the electrifying drama of stage lights and dimly lit nightclub funk.
It is a process; starting with a construction of wood and wire, and then building upon, creating an image by layering, shifting and manipulating muslin, paper, acrylic paint and other found materials.  I incorporate the painterly 2-dimension, graphic illusion, and 3-dimensional construction, putting a face on some of the biggest sounds into an unconventional portrait.
