About

"Get BARE® in Martha's Closet©."

A skincare collection called BARE® sounds sexy, and you might be wondering if I'm advocating something sinful.

This is a lighthearted tale of a young woman's determination to ride out a stormy economy and come out on top.

It began with a pair of red shoes and a trip to a neighborhood consignment shop on Manhattan's Upper East Side.  Martha Choy is becoming a rising star in the beauty and skincare universe.

But first, back to the red shoes for background.  Working by day as a compliance director at an investment bank, Martha noted the similarity between her overstuffed closet and the secondhand clothes shop across the street.  Recognizing the revenue generating possibilities under her nose, she founded Martha's Closet© (MarthasCloset.com).  She went on to extend the product line from her own closet to include interested vendors who would be able to advertise their wares through, in her own words, "Martha's Closet - an upscale eBay without the exorbitant fees".

And now to the beginning of BARE®, among the parade of Martha's Closet vendors who seemed to be beating a path to her door, were purveyors of beauty products.  None had the purity and luxurious quality that Martha required for her "Upscale Resale" venue.  In order to meet her own strictly drawn requirements, Martha considered the possibilities, one of which was to build a skincare line herself.  In three months, BARE® (BareBodyCollection.com) was launched and introduced to the beauty industry by W Magazine, Women’s Wear Daily, and by current Style Director at People.com, Andrea Lavinthal among many others.

Two trademarks later, (BARE-LY LEGAL® - one of her six original fragrance lines and BAREFLY® - her travel collection), Martha Choy is still a one woman show; from all of the marketing, product photography and videos, to self-taught html code construction of the BARE® website, to her creating, mixing, and “ladling and labelling” one-of-a-kind lotions and potions containing pure and all natural ingredients hand packaged in “apothecary-esque” amber jars with silvery lids in her studio apartment kitchen.  Better yet, they are "Tested on Martha's friends and family, not on animals©".

From “compliance officer” to “chemist”, Martha can tell her story better than I can.  If you give her a few minutes, her caustic and dry humor will have you in stitches laughing about her travails.  Move over, Chelsea Handler and Bethenny Frankel!
