About

For more than a century at Barlow Respiratory Hospital, our focus has been on helping patients breathe easier.  As a Long-Term Acute Care Hospital, Barlow treats patients with critical care needs that require longer hospital stays and specialized, expert care.  On average, patients stay at Barlow for 30 days.

Many patients are referred to Barlow by other hospitals and health care providers.  Aware of our established outcomes, they recognize Barlow's expertise in treating patients with complex respiratory and medical needs.

Through the Barlow Respiratory Research Center, we keep abreast of the latest treatments and technologies for our patients.  Barlow is also internationally recognized for its success rate weaning patients from ventilators.

Our highly specialized Programs and Services deliver expert care and support for a variety of critical care needs.  These nationally recognized programs include individualized treatment and care for our patients.

Our physician-led health care teams, which include nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers, physical, occupational and speech therapists, case managers, and dietitians, together, apply their expertise to each patient.  The goal of our "team approach" to care is to return patients to optimal functioning in their daily lives.

To facilitate the treatment and recovery process, Barlow Respiratory Hospital provides a variety of Patients and Family Support Groups and Services that encourage both the patient and the caregiver(s) to participate in patient education and discharge planning.

We at Barlow Respiratory Hospital are proud to stand upon a time-honored tradition of delivering excellent care.  Since opening in 1902, Barlow Respiratory Hospital is one of the longest-running hospitals in Los Angeles, with a reputation for taking on the most difficult patient cases.  We invite you to explore the Barlow Respiratory Hospital 100-Year History.
