About

CIMA Canada will host an innovation conference at the Bram and Bluma Appel Salon, Central Library, Toronto on Thursday, October 30th (1:30pm to 5:30pm). The event will explore how organizations and individuals can nurture a culture of innovation, and investigate how innovation can transform markets in the 21st century.

CIMA President Keith Luck, FCMA CGMA and Arleen Thomas, CPA, CGMA (SVP – Management Accounting & Global Markets at AICPA) will join business leaders and other VIPs for this discussion of one of the central challenges of the 21st century. Martin Saxton, Chair of CIMA Canada comments that “Most organizations recognize that they must innovate to survive, but it is easier said than done. We hope that the conference will provide solid insights on how managers can embrace new ideas and question excepted ways of working, and thereby reap the rewards of that innovation”

This year's keynote speaker is Amanda Lang, Senior Business Correspondent for CBC News. As well as being the host of CBC TV's "The Exchange with Amanda Lang" Amanda is author of the best-seller, The Power of Why: Simple Questions That Lead to Success.

The speaker will be followed by a round-table discussion, chaired by Paul Waddle, Editor of the Globe & Mail's Report on Business. Confirmed panelists include Terry Stuart, Chief Innovation Officer, Deloitte, Hossein Rahnama, Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Flybiits, Ken Kelly, Senior Vice President and Controller, Mc Cormick and Co (retired), Sumit Luthra, VP, George Weston Bakeries and Marrouane Nabih, CFO, Randstad Canada.

The conference will consider not only how organizations can promote “innovation”, but importantly, how they can incorporate it into their operations. We will seek answers to some of the most challenging issues in management accounting such as:

•     Is Innovation organic, or can it be built into the organizational culture?
•     Can the finance team overcome their reputation for stifling Innovation and become champions of creativity?
•     Does our education system, from kindergarten to business school, do enough to develop an instinct for Innovation in the business leaders of tomorrow?”

The session will be followed by a cocktail reception from 5.30-7pm.
