A collaborative art project "CHAIRS OF INCLUSION" pairs professional artists with JSDD Wae Center members to create art objects that represent INCLUSION.

In honor of the 10th Anniversary of JSDD’s Wae Center, a collaborative art project called CHAIRS OF INCLUSION has paired professional artists with Wae Center members to create art objects that represent INCLUSION.
The chairs represent our commitment/belief that every person is entitled to a “seat at the table”– in our community and in our family lives. The goal of the project is to shift perceptions about people with developmental disabilities and broaden and grow the public’s awareness of policies about inclusion.

These chairs are wonderful examples of how people with disabilities can make meaningful contributions in every aspect of life, and in doing so, enrich the lives of us all. Creating these joyful chairs was as transformative for the professional artists as it was for the contributing member-artists. Everyone involved in creating the chairs was challenged to rethink what they were capable of and what it means to be “able.”
