About

In 1946, a small group of parents in Los Angeles pooled their resources to create a daycare program for their children with developmental disabilities. Today, the Exceptional Children’s Foundation (ECF) is a recognized innovator of services for young children, students, and adults with developmental, learning, and emotional disabilities. ECF envisions a society in which all people with developmental, learning, and emotional disabilities are valued and integrated into educational, social, work, and residential settings. To this end, ECF’s objectives are to: assist children with disabilities or delays to reach key developmental milestones; help students with developmental delays, learning disabilities, and/or behavioral problems gain the tools to transition into mainstream education, work, and community life; increase each client’s participation in community settings; and maximize the independent living skills of adults with developmental disabilities. ECF is the only organization of its kind in California, offering a full continuum of lifespan services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.
