About

D.C. Pearls III Foundation is the nonprofit fundraising arm of the Rho Mu Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In the year of 2000, the Chapter voted to establish the Foundation as its fundraising partner to aggressively pursue grants, corporate sponsorships, and other donations. Two years later, D.C. Pearls III was incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

The Foundation and Rho Mu Omega jointly sponsor fundraising events and programs like the annual Jazz Brunch Auction, Debutante Cotillion and Fashion Show. Both organizations share the goal of providing dedicated and committed service to the community. This service includes awarding scholarships to high school students; sponsoring an annual black college tour; providing support to the Luke C. Moore Academy High School, a D.C. public high school primarily for at-risk and non-traditional students; giving away school supplies at the National Council of Negro Women Black Family Reunion; giving contributions and volunteering at Loaves and Fishes, a church food program for the homeless; and making donations to health entities like the Whitman Walker HIV/AIDS Clinic, Autism Speaks, and Race for the Cure for breast cancer awareness and research.
