Dr. David A. Copeland was appointed as the current superintendent of Madison County Schools in March of 2012. Previous to this he served a total of five years as superintendent of Crane R-III School District in Crane, Missouri and Cass Midway R-I School District in Cleveland, Missouri.

Dr. Copeland began his career in education in 1979 and has 30 years of service in the field of education as a teacher, coach, and principal, director of education, and superintendent, as well as three years as a training specialist supervisor in the private sector.

Dr. Copeland earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education from Evangel University in Springfield, Missouri; a Master of Arts degree from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri; an Education Specialist degree from Missouri State University; and a Doctorate of Education degree from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Dr. Copeland is actively involved in the community serving on the Board of Directors for United Way, The Huntsville/Madison County Chamber of Commerce and the Huntsville/Madison County Botanical Gardens and is a member of the Huntsville/Madison County Leadership Class 26.  Dr. Copeland works with local, state, and national organizations and is actively involved in his local church.

Dr. Copeland is a native of Birmingham, Alabama where he graduated from Huffman High School.  He and his wife Brenda have two children, Justin and Brittany and are the proud grandparents of Quintin, Brodie and Brecklyn.
