Coach Jamaal attended Treasure Valley Community College in Ontario, Oregon, William Penn University and West Virginia Wesleyan College (Press Maravich, the father of LSU's legendary "Pistol" Pete Maravich, coached at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon, West Virginia).  

Jamaal Al-Din is a former high-school player at Mountain Home High School in Idaho for Coach Ed Palubinskas, the former free throw tutor of the NBA's Shaquille O'Neal. Ed palubinskas is the creator of Baden's "Smartball," advertised on ESPN and nfl Network. Ed Palubinskas attended BYU-Idaho (formerly Ricks College) and LSU. He is a member of the Australia Basketball Hall of Fame.

Jamaal Al-Din has been a featured speaker/guest of Boise, Idaho's ESPN's affiliate 1350 KTIK Sports Radio hosted by Jeff Caves and Mike Prater.

The first Jamaal Al-Din's Hoops 227 Summer Basketball Camp was featured on Boise's ABC television affiliate KIVI Channel 6 News.

Coach Jamaal Al-Din, who is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, was a leading scorer in the state of Idaho, received the "Coaches Award" at Treasure Valley Community College, and the Top Defensive Player Award at the University of Michigan Basketball Camp.

Jamaal Al-Din's god-father, the late Max Boersma is a graduate of the University of Michigan.
