About

The Keweenaw Land Trust (KLT) is a charitable non-profit organization serving the western counties of Upper Michigan by protecting land, water and quality of life through conservation, stewardship and education. The KLT is a community partner founded in 1996 by local residents with a vision and love for the Copper Country. KLT applies effective strategies to protect and restore natural areas, watersheds, heritage lands, traditional farms, forests and family lands that enhance our quality of life and foster personal connections to the Keweenaw for generations to come. We strive to create opportunities for public access and low-impact recreation and to balance protection of natural resources with sustainable local economies across the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Our land conservation program involves working with willing landowners to create permanent protection agreements for private lands, known as conservation easements, as well as to establish public nature areas through land purchases and donations.
