Welcome to Bespoke Not Broke!
We truly thank God for locating our company in an area where Forbes Magazine consistently ranks as “the most affluent county in the Nation”—Loudoun County, Virginia. As a result of this enormous blessing to set-up shop in an area where the median annual household income is $115,574; it didn’t take us long to realize that the gently worn—and sometimes brand new with the tags--men’s designer labels that typically appear in consignment shops--in most other parts of the Nation--can be regularly found in many of the local thrift stores located in the suburbs of the Nation’s Capital.
That’s how Bespoke Not Broke was born!
We are an online men's boutique that specializes in the resale of gently worn and vintage men's clothing and accessories. Because many of our pieces are vintage, they may come with a little extra “character” that you will probably not find at your local retail store. Therefore, please read “Our Products” to learn more.
While considering names for our new online company, bespoke was the single-most word that best described our ultimate goal—provide an unbelievably custom item at an unbelievably ordinary price. Unfortunately, many seem to think the term “bespoke” has something to do with cycling.
Bespoke is certainly not a new term, but it is gaining in popularity. Basically, it is the polar opposite of off-the-rack. A lot of people use the terms bespoke and "made-to-measure" interchangeably, but they are mistaken. Bespoke items are indeed custom-made, but they are not made to measure, as featured by many good clothing vendors. A made-to-measure item is a standard article customized at the factory in certain measurements and details. Bespoke items are made from scratch to the customer’s exact specifications
The term bespoke actually dates back to the 17th century, when tailors held the full lengths of cloth in their premises. When a customer chose a length of material, it was said to have “been spoken for.” Or the finished item was a result of a particular request that was "bespoken."
As one would imagine, these finished items—were then, as they are now--extremely cost prohibitive and not accessible for the average person. Fortunately, Bespoke Not Broke was conceived for this very reason to help bridge this economic gap that has always existed between the “haves” and “have nots” when it comes to fashion and style. Although many of our custom and unique items were formerly in the possession of the professional athletes, doctors, lawyers, lobbyists, Senators, Congressmen, and C-level business executives in the Washington D.C. area; we travel from coast-to-coast regularly scouring many of the Nation’s thrift stores in search of that elusive piece that was meant just for you!
So make sure you visit us regularly to mitigate the chances of you speaking—or emailing—these often uttered words of lamentation, “Wow! I wish I had checked your site before that item sold out!”
