Seema Mustafa, Editor-in-Chief

Seema is a senior journalist who has worked in and edited several newspapers, including Patriot, Indian Express, The Telegraph, Economic Times and Asian Age. She was also with the News X channel as their National Affairs Editor. She has covered conflict in both India and abroad, and writes extensively on politics. She has authored two books V.P.Singh: The Lonely Messiah; and more recently Azadi’s Daughter. She has edited a book of essays on Journalism: Ethics and Responsibilities.

Mehru Jaffer, Roving Editor

Mehru is a senior journalist who started her career in India with The Pioneer and went on to Vienna. She has been writing regular columns for magazines in both India and abroad. She has authored The Book Of Muninuddin Chishti and the Book of Muhammad. She is based in Lucknow where she was born and brought up as well.

Bilal Zaidi, Associate Editor and Head of Videos

Bilal has ten years of experience as a television journalist having worked with organizations like NDTV, NewsX and Rajya Sabha TV. His core areas are domestic and external politics and he is equally comfortable interviewing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi or members of the Free Syrian Army. Bilal has studied Conflict Transformation and Peacebuilding from Lady Shriram College, University of Delhi.

Gayeti Singh, Assistant Editor

Gayeti, prior to joining The Citizen, has worked in the media, publishing, development/advocacy and education sectors, in addition to two entrepreneurial ventures in the education and e-commerce space. Gayeti’s interests are politics, political economy and development with a specific focus on South Asia. She graduated from the University of Oxford and has recently accepted an offer to read the MPhil in Modern South Asian Studies at the University of Cambridge.

Manav Bhushan, Assistant Editor

Manav has recently completed a PhD in Engineering Sciences from the University of Oxford, and his work involved mathematical modelling in a Cancer research project. In 2012, he worked briefly as a sub-editor for www.freespeechdebate.com. He is currently pursuing an LLB degree from Delhi University, and is interested in human rights law, public interest law, and conflicts between the executive and the judiciary.

Bela Butalia, News Editor

Bela Butalia joins The Citizen as News Editor after more than twenty years in publishing. After her M.Phil in International Relations from JNU, Delhi, she worked as Chief Editor (Roli Books), Deputy Editor (India International Centre) and as Consultant-Publications (INTACH Delhi). She has published two books, a research paper and numerous articles, and is currently teaching Italian and English.
