About

Volunteer Africa 32˚ south (VA32) was founded by Michael Denison and Sean Price in 2004 as the vehicle to further grow and implement a number of education and social transformation initiatives they were involved in through their tour company, African Heartland Journeys.

Often regarded as the “eternal optimists”, Mike and Sean, born, bred and well travelled South Africans with considerable rural development experience and a strong track record in tourism decided that an organisation encouraging responsible, participatory and authentic travel experiences that respond to genuine needs, as defined by their local communities, was necessary for the Wild Coast, and hence VA32 was formed.

VA32’s core focal areas concentrate on education, social transformation and conservation. Utilising foreign travellers and providing a strong and professional framework, VA32 in partnership with other relevant role players and stakeholders as partners, designs and implements volunteer projects.

As an organisation we have grown through our experiences, learned from our volunteers and built increasingly strong relationships with our partners. It has been an exceptionally successful model that has refined itself into a valuable contributor to schools, environmental organisations, game reserves and the broader community. This has all been a direct result of the numerous volunteers we have been privileged to host over the past five years. To track the organisations accomplishments please visit the News Archives page on this site as well as checking out our past volunteer comments. If you would like to hear more from some of our past volunteers please get in touch with us & we can arrange more in-depth communications to help you to reach a further understanding of the volunteer experience and the rewards of being part of the VA32 team.
