I started chamightlike.com because I wanted to spend more time with my mom. My mom is 64 years old. And not to be morbid, but in terms of quality time together, if not now, when? When I think about my life, one story comes back to haunt me over and over again. It's Shel Silverstein's The Giving Tree. One of the most truthful, most touching stories ever written. I've come to see myself as the boy in the story and my mom as the tree in the story and that we've both reached that point in our lives, where she just wants to see me as often as possible, and I have no more illusions about happiness being found elsewhere. Happiness begins and ends at home. With family. I know that now. I didn't always. In his 2009 TED talk, Simon Sinek said that the difference between normal companies and great companies is that in normal companies, people know what they're doing, but in great companies (he specifically referred to Apple), people know why they're doing what they're doing. So I return to my first point. Why did I start this site? Sort of like a project my mom and I can do together. Between us, we look for interesting products, build up an inventory, write exact product descriptions, take insightful photos, do SEO and web marketing, take orders, do fulfillment, provide customer service, pack, ship, and even track the products ourselves. Yes it's a lot of work for two people, but you either make time to spend time with your loved ones or you don't. If you don't, you'll regret it when they aren't around anymore. So about us. What else can we tell you? We live in Shenzhen, China: the consumer products capital of the world. I have a full-time job that pays quite well, but again despite the bucks it's still the rat race afterall. After work and on the weekends, my mom and I Source the Streets of Shenzhen (very alliteratively Slytherin I must say) for products that make you go hmm. Our aim isn't to have a million product catalog like other ecommerce sites. Our business model is sort of like a cross between Etsy and Kevin Kelly's Cool Tools. And what's more...chamightlike.com isn't just about selling stuff. It's also about recommending cool stuff chamightlike to read, hear, or watch.
