APRIL 1: Los Angeles, CA. It’s not an April Fools’ joke. Charles Holt, Broadway actor, recording artist, and inspirational speaker, is launching his second book Between Me and Dad today in Los Angeles.
“There’s nothing foolish about forgiveness,” Holt says, and the book’s subtitle, “A Journey through Forgiveness to Freedom” evokes the nature of healing and its irreversible wind in exonerating one’s own soul. “I realized that forgiving my father was important to his life and even more vital to mine. As I released him from the prison of my mind, I too felt the shackles from my ankles falling away,” Holt relays.
Far from easy and riddled with emotional challenge, the book was written days after Charles witnessed his father’s passing. The journey that he and his dad took was initiated from a turbulent beginning followed by years of painful disappointment and staunch resentment. A courageous phone call home to forgive his father started a rigorous passage through reconciliation, compassion, and a continued willingness of understanding. “The years I spent in frustration and pulsing anger found a healthy resolve through that which is greater than any dread, hostility, and suffering. Love is the only answer. Everything fades into love,” Holt adds. In concluding, Charles pens, “Eventually, we recognize that our healing is not only about out own personal pain. As we follow our path to wholeness, we realize that we are healing for the lives of those who came before us... and for those who come after.”
