CIBAFI Workshop Tackles Challenges in IFSI with Series of Technical Workshops

Manama, Bahrain, 31 August 2014 – The General Council for Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions (CIBAFI), the global umbrella of Islamic financial institutions, will hold a 3-day Workshop on Risk Management in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, supported by Al Salam Bank Bahrain. The Workshop is the first in a series of Technical Workshops designed to provide participants with the practical tools and techniques required to enhance their professional performance in the Islamic Financial Services Industry (IFSI).
Part of CIBAFI’s Professional Development Initiatives, the interactive Risk Management Workshop  focused on the technical issues that are relevant to the challenges that are facing IFSI professionals today. The Workshop will introduce participants to risks in Islamic financial institutions, different types of risks, Basel Standards, and Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) Standards.
Commenting on the Workshop, Secretary General of CIBAFI, Mr. Abdelilah Belatik said: “A key challenge that is facing the IFSI is a dearth of professional talent. As a precondition to future industry growth, CIBAFI, through our Professional Development Initiatives, endeavors to support capacity building, and enhance human capital development in the IFSI.”
The Technical Workshops, which are a new offering from CIBAFI, are aligned with its mission to improve the collective skill set of the Islamic banking sector, complement the Council’s existing offerings of international certifications.
Mr. Belatik added: “The Risk Management Workshop is the first in a series of Technical Workshops we are organising for CIBAFI members. We also have Workshops, earmarked for later this year, in Kuwait and the UAE, covering topics such as Islamic Banking and Islamic Capital Markets.”
