About

The Envy Labs development and design team specializes in creating beautiful web applications with Ruby on Rails. They've spent the past few years making outstanding web applications for new business, creating screencasts for the Ruby and Rails community, and recently launched Code School--an online learning platform with lessons for programmers and web designers.

Envy Labs does more than just make amazing web applications for clients, they nurture business projects from start to finish. The team conducts Discovery meetings and does extensive strategic planning for delivering successful web applications. From the day a client comes into Envy Labs, their consultancy works with them intensively to make sure they are aware of the market, available technologies, and potential hurdles. As Envy Labs closely collaborates with their clients, they play a role akin to an entrepreneurial partner.

Envy Labs is highly active in the development community. They contribute to open source projects and mentor other developers in the community. They run the annual BarCamp Orlando conference in Orlando Florida, and various team members from Envy Labs regularly speak at conferences around the world on programming, design and entrepreneurial topics.

Education is one of the Envy Labs' core values. The Envy team produces the weekly podcast Ruby5, which keeps the development community up-to-date on the latest happenings with Ruby and Rails. They promote education in the community through running the local Ruby Users group in Orlando (ORUG), as well publishing the Orlando TechEvents newsletter.

Through their product Code School, Envy Labs further promotes education in the community. Code School is an online programming tutorial website, offering free and paid courses for students worldwide. The team at Envy Labs took the initiative to redesign and brand the Try Ruby course, which helps to introduce brand new programmers to the Ruby on Rails programming platform and language.

Currently, Envy Labs is pursuing a 'Learn to Code' initiative which will offer free programming lessons to anyone. The team also rocks at ping pong and hosts a weekly Whisky Wednesday.
