PRESS RELEASE – IMPLEMENTATION OF BEACH MANAGEMENT AND SAFETY STANDARDS FRAMEWORK FOR TOURIST DESTINATIONS – THE “CLEAN BLUE” APPROACH

Beaches are important environmental, social and economic assets. However, their variety in terms of appearance, size, composition and usage makes their management a challenging, yet ultimately vital, contribution to resort or destinations overall tourism product.  Nowhere is this more important than in tourism marketing and promotion.  Linked very closely to this is the need for improvements to beach safety and bathing water quality, both of which are critical to ensuring a successful beach tourism product.
It is of paramount importance that the beaches and nearshore areas are well managed to ensure the safety and enjoyment of today’s users as well as future generations. Therefore, the need for compliance to a new industry standard for beach management and safety (ISO 13009 - referred to here as the “Clean Blue Industry Standard” - CBIS), is required to help provide beach operators with the information and guidance to effectively manage beach fronted hotels.

The Clean Blue Med consultancy team (part of a global “Clean Blue” initiative covering Africa, Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific regions) is the only firm in the world that is purposely established to help provide services to help deliver beach management, environmental planning and engineering advice for beach hotel owners and managers. The “Clean Blue Med” team shall be present at the World Travel Market (WTM) event in London between 8th and 9th November to meet interested groups to discuss this topic and to help clients realise the benefits that improved beach management can provide a business from a marketing perspective.
