About

Hand Rehabilitation of Virginia in Newport News specializes in upper extremity rehabilitation and full-body manual therapy. Our occupational therapists (OT) have obtained the knowledge, experience, and training necessary to be considered experts in treatment of the upper extremity. No other facility in Hampton Roads, VA offers a complete hand therapy solution as ours.

A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) and occupational therapist (OT) treat conditions affecting  the shoulder, elbow, wrist, and hand.

While we are experts in treating upper extremity dysfunction, we know the body works collectively. This is why at Hand Rehabilitation of
Virginia, we treat our patients and assess dysfunction using a whole body approach. Our therapists have extensive training in manual therapy for treatment of the full body.

If you are in need of Occupational Therapy (OT) services, wound care, work hardening, custom splinting then our facility is the only choice.

Certified Hand Therapist

A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an Occupational Therapist (OT) or physical therapist (PT) who has at least five years of experience as a therapist and a minimum of 4,000 hours of direct hands on practice experience in the field of hand therapy.

To obtain the designation of a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), the therapist must also pass the Hand Therapy Certification Examination. This is an intense examination of the upper extremity.

Therapists who pass this exam have achieved the highest level of professional recognition in hand therapy. The certification is awarded by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission and recognized by the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT).

Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) must also maintain their credentials in hand therapy through direct clinical experience and continuing education.
