Certified Hand Therapist
A Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) is an Occupational Therapist (OT) or physical therapist (PT) who has at least five years of experience as a therapist and a minimum of 4,000 hours of direct hands on practice experience in the field of hand therapy.
To obtain the designation of a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT), the therapist must also pass the Hand Therapy Certification Examination. This is an intense examination of the upper extremity.
Therapists who pass this exam have achieved the highest level of professional recognition in hand therapy. The certification is awarded by the Hand Therapy Certification Commission and recognized by the American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT).
Certified Hand Therapists (CHT) must also maintain their credentials in hand therapy through direct clinical experience and continuing education.
