About

Restoring Hope. Transforming Lives.

Our vision:  To restore hope and transform the lives of children with life-threatening medical conditions, their families and the communities in which we serve.

Our mission:  HopeKids provides ongoing events & activities and a powerful, unique support community for families who have a child with cancer or some other life-threatening medical condition.  We surround these remarkable children and their families with the message that hope can be a powerful medicine.

"There is no medicine like hope, no incentive so great, and no tonic so powerful as the expectation of something tomorrow."
- Orison Swett Marden

Our History:  HopeKids was founded in Phoenix, Arizona in Sept. 2001. HopeKids has local chapters in Phoenix, Arizona, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota (Nov, 2006), Salt Lake City, Utah (Sept, 2008)
and Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas (May, 2013).

Hope and Anticipation:  Hope is a powerful medicine. Most of us cannot imagine the costs, fears and sometimes incapacitating emotions and isolation that hospital stays and surgeries impose on families. Parents become overwhelmed and consumed with treatment and finances.  Siblings suffer confusion, fear, and resentment as normal life activities and parental attentions are replaced with a difficult medical journey.

HopeKids gives hope to families who have children with life threatening illnesses. We offer an ongoing calendar of events to keep children and their families focused on the future rather than dwelling on what they are dealing with now (i.e.needle pokes, chemotherapy, blood transfusions and other painful experiences.)  Each week HopeKids holds 3-5 highly-anticipated, cost-free, fun events for affected families. From live theatre to private screenings of first run movies and amusement parks to major sporting events, we offer a wide variety of fun for everyone to look forward to. Our events bring light to very dark and uncertain times. We organize the events - our families simply sign up and look forward to the fun.

In our survey to HopeKids parents over 99% of HopeKids families indicated they agree or strongly agree that HopeKids events provided hope and anticipation for their children and family. “Thanks for a fun day. You really do bring hope into our family!  Numerous studies reveal that hope and anticipation directly impact health and well-being. One study published in the Journal of the National Medical Association found that “Hope...can increase one’s overall ability to cope with stress by reducing fears and anxieties...”
