About

You hate to exercise.

How do we know this? Because the chances are very good that you're among the approximately 80 percent of US adults who don't get enough exercise every week (that's 150 minutes, at a minimum, of a combination of aerobic and muscle-strengthening exercise). Why don't you exercise? We're going to guess that you'll say you don't have time and maybe that the gym is too expensive, too far, and/or too intimidating. (Did we guess right?)

The truth is that you don't want to do it. The truth is that you probably hate to do it. As in, you seriously loathe and despise working out.

You're not alone. Far from it. The pictures and articles you see on other fitness sites may be of smiling gym rats, muscle-heads, and aerobics queens, but you probably think you don't have anything in common with those yahoos. And maybe you don't.

But what we think you might have in common with fit people is a desire to be fit and healthy.

No one wants to be unfit or feel like crap, after all. But most people don't know how to get started--what to do, how to do it right, and especially what will really make a difference so they know they're not wasting their time and effort. Most people also really don't like the feeling of sweating like a stuck pig, of being the biggest or slowest person in a class, or simply picking themselves up on the couch to go outside or to the gym when they're tired or crabby. Here's a not-so-secret secret: No one likes those things. We get it. We've been there too.

Which is why ih8exercise starts where you are: Probably unfit, maybe unhealthy, not too happy about either, and wanting to change things.

We don't pretend that you want to exercise, or that you know how. On this site we'll show you how to do everything (we'll even soon have a feature called "NDQs," which stands for No Dumb Questions).

We want to hear your questions, your bitching, your moaning, your frustrations, and also, of course, your successes when you have them.

We won't overload you with information--after all, reading about exercise is almost as painful as working out itself. We want to give you only the information that research has shown will make you fitter and healthier. (Just so you know,  we're not so concerned with weight loss here. Sure, getting to and maintaining a healthy weight is essential to good health for most people, but exercise, on its own, is actually not a great way to lose weight.)
Our goal: We want you "graduate" from ih8exercise and move on to all those other fitness sites, apps, trackers, gyms, classes, and teams that are for people who want to exercise.
We want to turn you from an exercise hater into an exercise lover.

Once you're a pro (and you will be: we believe in you), you'll be able to go out into the world and become an evangelist for being fit and healthy. Believe it or not, you will want to share the love.

This way, together,  we can really change the world, by turning haters into lovers--one hater at a time.
