About

The Lincoln University Heritage Initiative (LUHI) is a Pennsylvania non-profit organization formed by alumni of Lincoln University (PA) who seek public support for the preservation and listing of 15 historic buildings on its Southern Chester County campus on the National Register of Historic Places. Four of the historic buildings, in various stages of disrepair, are slated for demolition by the University, including Azikiwe-Nkrumah Hall, built during the Civil War when the institution was known as Ashmun Institute. LUHI's architects, engineers, urban planners, higher education administrators and preservationists have submitted a proposal for the development of the Lincoln University Historic District that will not only preserve the unique historic legacy of America's first HBCU founded in 1854 but also bring jobs and tourism to the region.
