We have expertise to assist teens and their families who are experiencing abusive behaviors (sexual, physical, and/or emotional) anxiety, depression, addictive behaviors, poor self-esteem, negative self-image, self-destructive behaviors, gender and sexual identity issues. Adolescent behaviors significantly impact the entire family. We can help.

What Happens in Counseling?

Youth experience a safe and respectful opportunity to talk about their behaviors and how they are hurting themselves and their family. Many teens lack the necessary insight for a healthy transition into adulthood. Because of this, adolescence can be a time of turmoil for the family.  During this period youth try to decipher the many mixed messages they have received during their childhood years. Some who are expressing themselves abusively have themselves been confused by their own past.

This often brings the family into periods of conflict, fear, anger, anxiety, embarrassment, and the secrecy abuse brings.  Treatment for an adolescent starts with a joint meeting with the family (youth and parents). A meeting with the adolescent is then conducted to collect additional information and to discuss treatment options. A successful counseling experience requires a respectful partnership established within an emotionally safe environment.

You’re NOT Alone!
Many adolescents become skilled in their self-centered thinking and learn to master manipulating others, being highly secretive, and an expert at justifying their behaviors and blaming others. If a parent just "doesn't want to know" on some level, these teens can easily manipulate the situation so the parent can feel as if everything is fine. Parents often fall into the cycle of denial, finding ways to explain the behavior away to avoid the pain that is inevitable when you take direct action with a rebellious and defiant teen.

Is your teen troubled?
Or just a normal adolescent going through the growing pains of becoming an adult? There are some obvious signs of a truly troubled teenager. Parents must be on the lookout for these signs and quickly recognize them in their child. Parents who take an honest look at their child should trust their instincts; if you think your child is in trouble, take action now.
