About

The MuttShack is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization established in 2005 that works to stop the killing of healthy animals in overcrowded shelters. MuttShack responded to Hurricane Katrina and established the only free full service triage facility in the City of New Orleans where our volunteers rescued and provided critical care to over 3,000 animals. “The Katrina Promise” became MuttShack’s ongoing mission and the organization began working with local, state and federal authorities with which it had formed cooperative relationships during its Katrina rescue efforts. This work culminated in the largest mass-evacuation of pets in US History as Hurricane Gustav was bearing down on the Louisiana coast in late August 2008.  The MuttShack's ongoing mission now focuses primarily on dog rescue from overcrowded animal shelters, holding weekly adoptions at Petco – Burbank, and has found homes for over 1200 dogs over the past three years.
