About

ProFauna which was previously known as KSBK (Konservasi Satwa Bagi Kehidupan) is a non profit organization with international networks working for the protection of wildlife and forest in Indonesia. ProFauna’s activities are non political and non violent. ProFauna was established in 1994, in Malang City, East Java, Indonesia. ProFauna’s main activities are campaign, education, wildlife trade survey, wildlife rehabilitation and animal rescue.

ProFauna’s establishment was moved by the fact that Indonesia is one of the countries who are rich in biodiversity including wildlife but Indonesia has ironically long list of threatened wildlife. Habitat degradation and over exploitation are the main threats of wildlife in the country. The situation is worsened by the lack of people awareness on the conservation of wildlife and their habitats. If we let it happen more wildlife will be extinct in the wild. Wildlife extinction must lead to other nature destruction which bring bad impacts to human life. Furthermore, cruel and inhumane practices towards wildlife as well as exploitation of wildlife in the name of conservation will still happen openly in Indonesia. For these reasons, ProFauna works to protect wildlife and forests in Indonesia.

ProFauna has been working to protect wildlife and from the illegal trade and other exploitation ever since. ProFauna efforts in protecting and saving wildlife and forests are considered as the key points to save the nature in general which eventually bring better life for human beings.

ProFauna also:

Owns P-WEC (Petungsewu Wildlife Education Centre) located in Malang, East Java, which has dormitories with sleeping facilities for 170 youngsters, outdoor activities and lecture hall. P-WEC is an informal education centre of wildlife and their habitat conservations.
Totally supports the Javan Langur Conservation (JLC) Program - a 2.3 hectares high standard langurs temporary shelter and excellent care to about 30 rescued and confiscated langurs (leaf monkeys).
ProFauna’s Principles:

All wildlife has value for conservation of nature, and whenever possible, must be left to live freely in their natural habitats. We humans have the responsibility to fulfill that.

ProFauna’s Network:

Since October 1999, ProFauna has joined SSN (Species Survival Network), founded in 1992, an international coalition of over eighty non-governmental organizations (NGOs) committed to the promotion, enhancement, and strict enforcement of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). Through scientific and legal research, education and advocacy, the SSN is working to prevent over-exploitation of animals and plants due to international trade.

ProFauna is a member society of the World Society for the Protection of Animal (WSPA) and also a member of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (RSPCA), the oldest animal protection organization in the world.

ProFauna works together closely with International Primate Protection League (IPPL), an international organization based in Summerville, USA, specializing in primate protection. Other international organization that works together with ProFauna include, The Born Free Foundation, Humane Society International, SOS Sea Turtles, the International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW), the World Parrot Trust, etc.

Supporter:

ProFauna accommodates any one who cares for wildlife protection efforts by becoming as a ProFauna’s Supporter. ProFauna’s supporters are all over Indonesia and over seas. Many of them run independent wildlife protection campaigns in their own regions. Backgrounds of ProFauna’s supporters vary from students, teachers, lecturers, businessmen, government officers, NGO activists, artists, celebrities, to housewives. Despite their various backgrounds, all of ProFauna’s supporters share a mission to protect wildlife and their habitats from extinction and inhumane treatment.
