About

Nestled between the Shawangunk Mountains and the majestic Hudson River in Ulster and Orange Counties, the eighty-mile-long Shawangunk Wine Trail boasts a unique combination of spectacular scenery, memorable restaurants and shops, and of course, fine wines.

The wineries along the Trail are as varied as the wines themselves. You will find wines ranging  from bone dry to dessert sweet. You will find sparkling vinifera, French-American, and beautifully made fruit wines. You can even find some hard ciders and wonderful distilled spirits along the Trail. Tours and tastings are a specialty of the Trail and throughout the year there are special events at the individual wineries as well as the four events put on by the Trail.

The natural beauty of the Trail adds to its appeal. The luminescent light of the Valley has inspired artists for centuries, and the beauty of the Trail is matched by the variety of its attractions. The Trail winds through a landscape dotted with B&B's, restaurants, farmer's markets, antique and craft shops, and historical sites.  Visitors can enjoy camping, fishing, ballooning, sky diving, boating, and hiking. You can event visit the oldest street in America, Hugenot Street in New Paltz, where stone houses built by the regions first winemakers display the way life was lived in the 1650.

Starting 80 miles north of the New York City, the Shawangunk Wine Trail is accessible from the New York State Thruway at Exits 16, 17 and 18, and can be approached from the south of I-84 at Warwick and Washingtonville and from the north of I-84 at Marlboro, Pine Bush or New Paltz.
