About

I have always enjoyed being creative. As a child I used to sing silly songs, draw cartoon characters, and make school projects from scratch.
I also loved to read and use my imagination. In the fourth grade I won an award for my true-life story Friends Can Be So Mean, as well as awards for interpretive reading.
Growing up I thought I’d be a special education teacher, but instead God called me to Biola University, where I met my surfer husband, Doug, and earned my B.A. in Speech Pathology and a minor in Bible.
When my four children were small, I would take them to the local library and check out at least a dozen books at a time. We would snuggle on the couch together and I would read to them, using my best interpretive voice. My love for books and being creative sparked something inside. I wanted to be an author.

Books for Tween Girls
Learning how to write well is a process, one that I’ve been working on for a dozen years or more, including studying the craft of writing books for kids from The Institute of Children’s Literature. My imagination, childhood experiences, and being a Mom gives me lots of content for my books and my upbringing helps me add a Christian perspective. I’m excited to say The Christian Girl’s Guide to Style, my first book for tween girls, received a Gold Mom’s Choice Award. The Girl’s Guide to Your Dream Room and The Girl‘s Guide to Life are my current and upcoming releases from Legacy Press.

I am also passionate about women’s fiction. I have a soft spot for books where two people not only search for each other after years of being apart, but also discover something new about themselves along the way. In my novels, I strive to weave romance with a hint of mystery. By attending The Mount Hermon Christian Writers Conference, and joining American Christian Fiction Writers, my agent sold my debut novel, Delivered with Love (2011), to Abingdon Press. What a thrill it’s been to see my novel in print and hear from readers. My second novel, The Heart Stone, released April 1, 2013. My newest release, Watercolor Dreams, is a historical romance set in 1910 along the lush sandy beaches of Carmel.
