About

Home for The Simply Delicious Fruit Cake Company is amongst the gentle rolling hills of south Shropshire just a few miles from Ludlow. The fruitcakes started as an off shoot of Milly’s catering business. Baked in the farmhouse kitchen and sold in Ludlow Thursday’s market, the cakes had more appeal than weddings, parties and organising waitresses. By 2002 the cakes were in full swing and sales began to mount up.

All the cakes are hand made to our own traditional recipes then baked in small batches so that production can be personally supervised by Milly. Each cake is packed with vine fruits, butter and of course a tot of whisky or brandy depending on the cake. Where possible we source ingredients locally – free range eggs from the farm over the hill behind us. We now bake twelve different flavours of fruitcakes in various shapes and sizes. They range from a round two inch baby fruit cake up to large family size seven inches across.

At Moor Farm we have now converted old stables and traditional barns into a larger bakery and last year we opened a new warehouse to give us still more space to cope with the thousands of cakes we make.

Presentation is a big thing for us too. Our cake packaging is contemporary in design and we strive for the highest standard whether the cake is eaten at home or given away as a present. All our cakes are sent out in the post in a gorgeous red lined purple gift box with an embossed silver logo on the lid.

The best bit is our staff - all drawn from the local rural farming community. It’s a busy hard working bakery. But the cakes are made with a lot of fun and laughter too. The girls make have their own work station at which they mix, bake and decorate their own batches. This gives them ownership of their cakes and a pride in what they make.

Above all this is a family business. Milly’s husband Archie joined in 2005. Apart from the husband and wife team, we have mothers and daughters, father and son’s, sisters, Uncle Tom Cobley and all.

Our customers are many and varied with cakes being despatched all over the world and we even help sustain our Armed Forces in Afghanistan. In 2008 we were very proud to be appointed by Fortnum & Mason to make their fruitcakes. Using their recipes we bake seven different cakes including the King George Christmas cake inspired by George IV. Our cakes reach deli’s and farm shops in all corners of the country as far north to Tebay service station on the M6 and on to Scotland for The House of Bruar.
