About

We run programs for kids and youth in grades 1 to 12 who have limited access to writing and creative arts programming. Since opening our doors, we have worked with over 2,000 kids and youth. Our students come from across the GTA, but in particular from our local neighbourhood, Bloordale Village, the most multicutural ward in Toronto. Students enrolled in our programs come from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds, including Chinese, Bengali, Tamil, Portuguese and Carribean. English is often the second or third language for our students and their parents, and many do not have the resources to engage with creative writing or art outside of school. To ensure that there are as few barriers to participation as possible, our workshops are either free or offered at a nominal cost.

Story Planet began running workshops in 2009 and became a registered charity in 2011. Our programs are inspired by the U.S. based 826 writing centres co-founded by best-selling author, David Eggers.
