About

THE STORY:

On Thanksgiving 2003, I lost my fiancé Randee DeMartino to cancer; she was just 29 years old.  During our two year ordeal, we received an outpouring of support from the Atlanta and New York City areas to cope with $100,000 in medical bills. Words can't convey the significance of this help.

As anyone who has experienced grief can attest to, the journey of healing is an individual one.  In my case, it started by fulfilling a life long dream of becoming a motorcycle rider the spring after Randee passed.  Forty thousand (40,000) miles later, with a couple of solo cross country trips under my belt, the therapy of being a motorcycle rider fused with my passion for golf.  Inevitably, this led to the strapping of my golf clubs to my motorcycle and riding off to play distant courses, and hence the name was born…TWO WHEEL dRIVER. Additionally, as a lifelong musician and Atlanta venue manager, music has played a tremendous role for me throughout the entire ordeal, perhaps best exemplified by a series of benefit concerts I organized for Randee at Smith's Olde Bar as she fought the disease.

Inspired by real life events, TWO WHEEL dRIVER is a unique and inspiring ‘philanthropic road show’ fusing motorcycles, golf, and music to raise money for the battle against cancer in communities across America via the newly established Randee Foundation, celebrity charity golf tournaments and benefit concerts.  In the vein of ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’ , Oprah’s ‘Big Give’ and Ewan McGregor’s ‘Long Way Round’, TWO WHEEL dRIVER is a traveling tribute to Randee and everyone else dealing with cancer.  It is also an opportunity for me to give something back.

The Mission:
The TWO WHEEL dRIVER crew’s mission and challenge is to ride into selected towns across America, set up celebrity golf and music festivals to raise money for local cancer causes, with a season total goal of 1,000,000 dollars. In the mold of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Oprah’s Big Give and Long Way Round (featuring Ewan McGregor) this unique and uplifting philanthropic road show called TWO WHEEL dRIVER is a party with a purpose.

Who is the Two Wheel Driver Crew?
They are 21st century knights in shining armor, a modern day ‘Magnificent Seven’ who have traded in horses for motorcycles and swapped guns for golf clubs. The leader of the Two Wheel Driver crew is Mark Augustyn. Like so many people in America, Mark was directly affected by cancer when his fiancé Randee passed away four years ago. Her loss served as the inspiration behind TWO WHEEL dRIVER and its quest to help others doing battle with this dreaded disease.

Mark leads his eccentric crew of riders, Bill, Brad and Wes -each with their own valuable journeyman skills- across America, through mountain peaks and thunderstorms, birdies and breakdowns, all to get to the next town and continue the fight. Guiding the viewer is our Narrator/Den Mother who tracks the crew on their progress from town to town and ala Mike Rowe on Deadliest Catch, she provides important storyline and human interest information. But she is more than just a pretty voice, she’s also a pretty face with a connection to the cause and serves as the “advance team” for the crew, arriving in town before the motorcycles and prepping the town for the arrival of Mark, his crew and any surprise guests who may have come along for the ride.

How It Works:
Each town has a different story and a unique circumstance that the TWO WHEEL dRIVER crew must confront. Whether it is a particular family that is on its last legs financially because of medical bills or the local cancer treatment center that needs a new overnight wing for patient’s families, every episode provides a new challenge and mission.

The TWO WHEEL dRIVER crew roll into town, get to know the folks they are helping and then rally the town around a charity golf festival. There, residents can see some of their local celebs, like the fire chief or mayor, team up against the TWO WHEEL dRIVER crew and their celebrity friends like Michael Jordan, Drew Carey, and Justin Timberlake. It is more Caddyshack than PGA and the laughs are more important than the hole-in-ones. And what better way to wrap up the day, than with some famous musicians hitting a local stage for an intimate, end of the day benefit concert to raise even more money?!

Additionally, using technology like never before, viewers will follow, directly participate and assist with the crew’s charitable adventure to reach the season’s donation goal.  Real people helping real people will never be the same, and no one will forget the day TWO WHEEL dRIVER rolled into town.
