DHS COMES TO NORTH GEORGIA
Retired Federal Criminal Investigator and Area Businessman Brings Lessons Learned to the Marketplace

After nearly a 30 year career as a federal criminal investigator with the U.S. Customs Service and later the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Brett Braaten  learned a few things. During his years with the U.S. Customs Service, he conducted investigations involving drug smuggling, computer forensics, money laundering, the export of critical U.S. technology to embargoed countries, white collar crime relating to copyright and trademark infringement, and trade violations. Following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001 and the merger of U.S. Customs with the DHS, the emphasis became border security, immigration, and the detection and disruption of potential terrorist activities.

With a particular interest in the U.S. position in the global marketplace, he watched as certain sectors within the U.S. economy, i.e. the textile industry, disappeared due to unparalleled foreign competition.  The job loss to regional sectors of the U.S. economy was severe.

Technology developed through American ingenuity was no less at risk as unfriendly nations were unceasing in their attempts to pilfer closely guarded equipment and know how. In no small way its loss contributed to reduce America’s advantages in defense, manufacturing, and science.

Without stifling trade or impeding progress, Brett understood that steps nonetheless had be taken to preserve our place in the world markets and ensure a stable future for American families and business.

It was his concern for American families and business that lead Brett to found Vanguard Inventory Professionals (VIP). Knowing that 64% of American homes are undervalued by an average of 19%, underinsurance has become a widespread concern. If roughly 2 out of three homes are underinsured, millions of homeowners throughout the nation are at risk of major financial loss should fire, theft, or natural disaster strike.

Brett sought to protect this country his entire career. Now as Vanguard Inventory Professionals, he wants to do the same for American families, businesses, and their investments by providing professional inventory services. He will be available for inventories anywhere in the southeastern United States.
