About

WE MAKE MOVIES is an indie film collective in Los Angeles dedicated to making the independent film world a better, more humane place, and also to make some really cool shit. Created in the spring of 2009 by filmmakers Sam Mestman, Joe Leonard, and Tara Samuel, WE MAKE MOVIES is the following things:

WRITERS WORKSHOP - A free screenplay reading workshop focused on providing a venue for fresh pages to be read by actors - with the aim of encouraging the writers and exploring the material as a precursor to pre-production.

IMPROV NIGHT - Professional actors improvise loose ideas presented by writers.

HOW WE MAKE MOVIES - We film live audience interviews with emerging filmmakers about their personal stories, following their challenges and triumphs.

FILM CONTESTS - Members submit new works and vote to see who's will be funded.

FILM SCREENINGS - Films made within the group are screened twice a year.

FILMMAKER RESOURCES – the filmmaker resources page of the website contains everything we’ve always been looking for but never found. The sections are broken down in Distribution, Production, Post-Production, and Writing.

SHOUT OUTS  - We publicize community events through facebook and twitter.

DISTRIBUTION - Watch some of what we've made at www.TheMoviesWeMake.com.
