Tier 1 This is our maturity model w developed around 16 critical inputs for successful businesses & is the foundation for creating a predictable & sustainable organization. In Tier 1 the ZPA’s Performance System concentrates on 16 key fundamental for all biz to create a predictable & sustainable enterprise. W have identified 8 areas to focus on within the biz & 8 areas to focus on with the people with it. Here are the 16 fundamentals & the basis of the Maturity Model:
The Biz
• Vision – an inspirational view of the desired future state
• Mission – describes why your biz exists & its primary purpose
• Structure – How the biz is aligned and structured to achieve the vision, mission & strategy set forth
• Roles & Responsibilities – This is specific to each position within the structure & clearly defines what the role entails & what this position is responsible for
• Policies – The rules and guidelines in which the biz operates by
• Processes & Procedures – Documenting “how” work is performed to drive standardization throughout the biz
• Systems – Connects activities & processes within the value stream, creating synergies that create an effect greater than the sum of its parts (information systems, quality system ). These can be manual/automated.
• Performance Metrics – measures put in place to drive consistent behavior & to measure actual performance v/s organizational goals
The People
• Accountability – holding others responsible for meeting the expectations as mutually agreed upon
• Discipline – following expectations as communicated by the biz (i.e. policies, processes & procedures)
• Communication – internal & external, verbal & non-verbal, formal & informal
• Knowledge – education gained through formal/ informal training regarding the biz
• Change Culture – willingness & execution of everyone within the biz to drive continuous improvement
• Execution – getting things done as mutually agreed upon
• Expectations – verbal & non-verbal guidelines in which w operate by
• Emotional Intelligence – the ability to identify, assess, & manage emotion & the emotions of others (individuals/group)
Through working with various biz & biz leaders w have found that many of the root causes of the day-2-day issues stem from some key fundamental areas. W have broken these into sixteen areas – 8 on the biz side & 8 on the people side.
Just like in sports, the fundamentals are key to highly performing teams. There is a reason that sports teams practice tackling & blocking, shooting & rebounding, hitting & catching. Even though these are some of the best professionals in the world, one will always find them practicing the basic fundamentals.
So why in the biz world do w spend so little time refining & focusing on these fundamentals? If most of the root causes stem from these fundamentals, shouldn’t we be focusing on these on a daily basis?
To help businesses focus on these key areas w hve developed a maturity model that will allow leaders to assess their current state, define future goals within each area, & develop a strategy to climb the maturity ladder in these areas.
By using this maturity model, leaders can establish a focused culture that can begin driving out the variation within the biz, which helps everyone focus on the right priorities & not fixing the problem of the day.
Tier 2 is our road map for implementing a successful improvement strategy that focuses on driving efficiency throughout the value stream – bottom line results. This road map was developed to maximize throughput, while minimizing waste & variation throughout the biz.
Tier 3 is an innovative approach for truly differentiating your biz from your competitors to drive sustainable growth – top line results.
NOTE: Levels (1-3) within the model aren’t necessarily from top to bottom, but are simply segregated by stage of maturity or strategic focus.
