Bob Duncan and his management team began the journey 20 years ago with the vision to offer highly customized, quality leather furniture produced to be shipped in 21 days — a delivery standard that was 3x faster than the industry average. By applying modern, just-in-time manufacturing methods to the “old line” furniture industry, this vision became a reality.

American Leather established its roots in a 5,000 sq. ft. borrowed facility in Dallas, Texas in 1991 with nine employees and $20,000 in revenues. Bob and his team engineered the factory to manage mass customization of product through the latest technology and manufacturing systems, making American Leather the most automated leather furniture manufacturer in North America.

Today, the company boasts over 400 employees and nearly $70 million in sales, and is headquartered in a 250,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in South Dallas. Its production capabilities allow American Leather to offer consumers more than 700,000 possible combinations to choose from when selecting their furniture, not including color alternatives. The company’s product and development teams are renowned in the furniture business for designing innovative, proprietary product that fills unmet needs in the market.

With the 2008 acquisition of John Charles Designs, a leader in fabric upholstery and design, American Leather has expanded its manufacturing capacity to now include hundreds of fine fabric upholstery options.
