American Waypoints is an interactive, location-based history platform designed to bring history to life where it actually happened.

Instead of simply reading about history in a textbook or watching another video online, American Waypoints encourages people to get out, explore and discover the historic people, places and events hiding all around them.

Using geolocation, digital storytelling, trivia, challenges, achievements, points, leaderboards and other gamification features, American Waypoints transforms cities, historic sites and communities into interactive learning experiences. Users can discover nearby Waypoints, visit the actual locations, unlock stories, answer questions, earn achievements and compete with friends, classmates and other explorers.

The idea is simple: History is everywhere, but most people walk right past it.

American Waypoints goes beyond famous monuments and traditional tourist destinations to uncover the smaller, often-overlooked stories that make history fascinating. A plaque on a building, a forgotten monument in a park, the birthplace of an important individual, the location of a historic event or a story hiding just around the corner can become an American Waypoint.

The platform is designed for families, students, teachers, school groups, veterans, tourists, history enthusiasts and local residents who want to experience their communities in an entirely new way.

Founded by U.S. Marine Corps veteran, entrepreneur and author Zachary Green, American Waypoints combines technology, experiential learning and historical storytelling with one goal: getting history out of the textbook and putting people on the ground where it actually happened.

American Waypoints is beginning its expansion into Washington, D.C., where thousands of well-known and lesser-known historical locations provide an extraordinary opportunity to demonstrate how technology and gamification can introduce history to a new generation.

The long-term vision is to build a nationwide network of Waypoints that allows people to explore American history wherever they travel.
