High School Guttenberg, NJ Resident Creates Bilingual
Civics & Citizenship Classes for the Community.
Posted July 22, 2024, Max Koppelman, a
rising Junior at The Dwight-Englewood School has lived
in Guttenberg his whole life and is deeply connected
to his community. By creating the program
“Aprendemos Juntos” (“we learn together”), he aims
to share his love of Spanish and civics with the entire
neighborhood. The program will be offered for free
every Monday and Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. from
Jul. 22 to Aug. 14 at the Guttenberg Resource Center,
located downstairs in the Galaxy Towers Mall, 7002
Boulevard East. The program comes as a result of
Max’s passion for Spanish, which has been cultivated
since he was three years old and has inspired him to
create lessons in American civic duties and politics
that are accessible to all members of the community,
and can be especially helpful for those studying for
their citzenship exam. In these turbulent times, with
the upcoming elections, Max's created lessons that will
cover a wide range of American politics and history
and result in a better understanding of how citizens
can participate in our government. " With the support
of Mayor Zitt and the Town Council, we are confident
this program will be successful", says Max. He aims to
cultivate an environment that not only encourages
and excites participants but also motivates them to
exercise their civic responsibility and explore our
nation through a political lens.
