BRING AMERICA HOME...

There was a young man who grew up in a small town of Alabama where the people were proud to be American.  Did I say proud?  Yes I did.  It was a place where kids played stick ball, baseball, basketball, cheerleading and other activities.  They all spoke English and had the ability to communicate with one another.  He overhead a bunch of men talk about how American is not cracked up to what it used to be and just thought, what does that mean?  As the years went by, he married and had his own children and realized how the world was changing.  He began to watch his children play video games vs. playing outdoors or after school activities.  They spent more time indoors in front of the television than anything.  When his son turned 13, he wanted to get a cell phone so that he could text like the rest of his friends.  He said to him, what is texting?  He said, that is where you could send messages to your friends through your phone.  So, they bought him a phone to text.  Then they really did not see much of him because he spent a lot of time with the new gadget, and he began to forget things like cleaning up his room, mowing the lawn or throwing the garbage out.  At dinner time, his phone just kept ringing and their dinner conversations were interrupted.  He and the wife began to think that this cell phone was not such a great idea.  They tried to talk to him about it, but he was so excited that they just let it go.  As the months went on, they noticed that he was not spending any time outdoors and insisted on staying in his room more because he was busy with his texting and now his latest request was to get a computer for Christmas.  They did not know if they could afford it with his job working at the mill.  They cut his hours and was hoping that he could just keep working.  His wife was a homemaker and spent most of her time caring for the kids.  She said that she could ask the neighbor if she could help out at the local general store, but who would take care of the kids?  The other kids are a lot younger than his son and have no interests in gadgets.  By the way,  he and his wife like it that way.  It reminds them of how things used to be, a unity.

It's October now and with the real fall approaching, they can feel a slight chill in the air.  Sometimes he sits out on the porch at night and thinks about the promises that the people are made about the economy and the job market and wonders when he will get his extra hours back.  He was happy working all the hours at the mill.  He thinks about how America has changed and what we have resorted to..immigrants taking over our jobs, Hollywood stars and athletes sending their well made money in America to other countries, our rich purchasing cost goods overseas and so much more.  They wonder if these Hollywood stars will have anyone filling the movie theater seats when they find out that they could have kept their money in their own country and helped to put their people to work.  They wonder if the NBA player that donated 1 million to another country would see Americans filling the seats at his game because they do not have a job to attend.  They just wonder why with all of the job stressors, no one has done anything to help these people.  So much for rambling on...now his son wants the computer for Christmas and he hopes that he could put in enough hours to think about getting him one.   What happened to America?
