Design Insight

At CDP we use ethnographic techniques to give us insight into the lives of our products’ users and better understand opportunities for innovation. We also conduct structured user trials and interviews as an integral part of our design process, providing us with invaluable feedback from real people that we use to refine our designs and minimise risk on investment.

Our expertise in usability also extends to interaction design. We have experience in designing and implementing user interfaces for a wide variety of electronic products, and can develop this simultaneously with product design to offer great value and a well-integrated combination of hardware and software.

This capability is a result of our combined expertise, including PhD level scientists and engineers with qualifications in physics, electronics, optics, materials, semiconductors, microstructures, fluidics, bio-mechanics and bio-sciences. Our three well equipped laboratories allow practical experimentation in a range of fields.

In particular, we are adept at converting what were previously high-end technologies into cost-effective solutions through a thorough understanding of the fundamental science and manufacturing economics.

Managing intellectual property is vitally important and we regularly work with a number of patent agents to help protect our client’s IP and ensure freedom to operate.

 

Product Engineering

Product engineering turns our concepts into commercial reality. Our in-house team includes chartered mechanical, electronics and software engineers experienced in creating world class products in our user-led innovation process.

A fluent understanding of both enabling and manufacturing technologies, DFM and six sigma techniques maximizes our ability to deliver breakthrough solutions to market, both quickly and efficiently. Our electronics and software engineers work with most industry standard embedded hardware and software platforms using structured development methodologies.
