Center for Independent Living of Broward to Give Free Wheelchairs and Other Durable Medical Devices to People with Disabilities during COVID-19 Crisis
Fort Lauderdale, Florida, April 6, 2020—The Center for Independent Living of Broward has announced it has over one hundred manual wheelchairs to give to people with disabilities and pieces of durable medical equipment available to loan for free to individuals living with disabilities through its Loan Closet. Items available for loan or for free include manual wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters.
People with disabilities in need of a manual wheelchair or other durable medical equipment must contact CIL Broward at: https://www.cilbroward.org/contact-us or 954-722-6400. Hospitals, Nursing Homes, and Assisted Living Facilities who need wheelchairs to help patients transition back into the community are also eligible for the program. The office is currently closed and pickup of devices is by appointment only. Items are limited and available on a case by case; first come first served basis.
The Center for independent Living of Broward assists people with disabilities so they can fulfill their goals of independence and self-sufficiency, and is the only agency in Broward County to offer services to people with all disabilities. The Center’s Loan Closet increases consumers’ independence and accessibility to persons with disabilities living in Broward County by lending new and gently used durable medical equipment and providing free wheelchairs at no charge to the consumer.
