About

Chris Chickering is a singer-songwriter, musician, lead vocalist and creator of Chris Chickering & the Now™, a band that fuses uplifting lyrics with a rousing original folk-rock sound. Enlightened and humbled by his own trials and tribulations, his mission is to effect real social change by inspiring people to live authentic, joy-filled lives.

Chris’ music and live performance break down barriers and help us recognize our common humanity. His deepest wish is for you to follow your passion and live into the fullness of your being. “No matter who you are or what you are up against, it’s never too late to manifest and live out your dreams.”

A natural entertainer and storyteller, Chris delivers his live performance on stages worldwide, as a soloist and with his band, as well as through breakthrough retreats, events and seminars.

Working in conjunction with multiple award-winning producers, engineers and musicians—including Emmy-winning, Grammy-nominated cowriter/producer Greg Barnhill, (“Your Day Is Today,” “Walkaway Joe” respectively) and Brian Hardgroove (Public Enemy), Chris has written over one hundred songs and completed five studio albums.

In August 2012, Chris released his first studio album, SHINE, with two-time Emmy Award-winning producer Ron Cohen. “Shine” features 9 new, original songs as well as Cat Stevens’ classic ballad, “Father and Son.”

Following that, Chris and Greg Barnhill wrote 37 songs for Chris’ second studio album, LIVING IN THE NOW (October, 2013). Engineered by Mills Logan (4-time ACM-nominated engineer of the year who has worked with Toby Keith, Taylor Swift, and Art Garfunkle), “Living In The Now” features 14 new, original songs.

2014 kicked off with band rehearsals and regional touring. In the spring, he and Barnhill wrote 19 more songs, and teamed up with engineer Greg Bieck (who has worked with Christina Aguilera, Kenny G, Lionel Richie and John Oates) for Chris’ third studio album, THE RESURRECTION OF ME, which was released in November 2014, and features 10 new, original songs.

THE BETTER SIDE, a 5 song EP that features 4 new, original songs, plus Chris’ cover of the Rolling Stones’ “No Expectations” was released in the winter of 2015. Mixed by Greg Bieck, featuring Mike Durham (Dave Matthews) on lead guitar.

On April 26th, 2015 Chris and Greg Barnhill arrived at RedFern Recording in Nashville, TN to produce REGENERATION, Chris’ fifth studio album. Regeneration is set for distribution Fall 2015, and features 12 new, original songs.

Chris’ view of music as a catalyst for personal development emerged from life-long studies of humanistic psychology. Chris has always possessed a burning desire to discover his higher-purpose and the meaning of life. He spent many years passionately exploring different types of conscious media, including books, audio programs and seminars related to personal development. He additionally seeks out wise people to uncover deeper universal wisdom.

“CHRIS’ MUSIC CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE IN SO MANY POSITIVE WAYS.”
– BOB PROCTOR, BEST-SELLING AUTHOR AND STAR OF THE SECRET

Chris’ journey to self-fulfillment has taken many twists and turns. He spent years attaching his self-worth to the amount of money he earned, and thus spent extensive time running around on an ’emotional-financial hamster wheel,’ often feeling unfulfilled and disconnected from his higher purpose.

In 2007 he founded Guru Authority™, the world’s #1 talent agency representing personal and professional development experts and the distribution channels that sell their products. In this ‘Jerry McGuire-like ‘ role, he reviewed literally thousands of hours of personal development related content.

A few years later an inner voice he could no longer ignore amplified in his heart. It was in this moment that the vision of Music for Positive Change was born—to take what he’d learned from a lifelong study of higher consciousness and make music which lyrically-channels this ‘spoken-word wisdom.’ As Chris explains, “We are channeling ‘spoken-word wisdom’ into the emotionally-connected medium of song.”

Aside from his artistic endeavors, Chris established a scholarship that gives underprivileged youths an opportunity to attend the Hyde Schools, private boarding schools for high school students that focus on the development of character and actualizing one’s full potential. Hyde Schools have been featured on 60 Minutes, 20/20 and in the New York Times. You can learn more about this initiative HERE.

Chris was born in New York City and grew up in San Francisco. In his spare time he enjoys working out, yoga, performing sleight-of-hand magic, and hiking with his dog Chili in the beautiful mountains of his hometown, Santa Fe, New Mexico.
