About

Collegiate School in Richmond, Virginia is a co-ed, K-12 community of learners, preparing the next generation of dynamic, creative thinkers for success in American society and the world at large. The school was founded in 1915.

Collegiate is an independent, college preparatory day school; however, we teach more than just skills. At Collegiate, character is as important as creativity; integrity accompanies intellect, and service joins leadership. The Collegiate experience inspires our community to learn from each other new ways of thinking and enduring qualities of character.

Our student body of 1,600 makes us the largest independent school in the metro Richmond, Virginia area; yet our personalized instruction and authentic commitment to caring about each student and family, gives the school an intimate feel. Every student matters.

Twelfth graders spend special time with kindergartners throughout the year; new students are paired with a "Cougar Pal" to help them learn about and feel welcome to the Collegiate community; our teachers and other faculty and staff form connections with students that help students thrive and pursue their goals.

Global education is a significant component of the Collegiate experience, beginning in kindergarten. We are believed to be the first school in the nation to develop and host a curriculum-based international conference through which we bring 60 high school students from around the world to our campus to study environmental and global economic issues. The International Emerging Leaders Conference is considered groundbreaking in K-12 educational circles.

While preparing our students for success in college is a significant part of our mission, we intentionally focus on preparing them to succeed in life, in a global world where their critical thinking skills and creativity will help them make significant contributions to society.

Collegiate alums include: Seattle Seahawks Quarterback Russell Wilson; film producer Michael Gottwald ("Beasts of the Southern Wild"); fashion designer Sarah Hailes Easley (co-founder of a new line for Target), 2012 Olympic equestrian Nina Ligon, and numerous others who continue to impact the world in positive ways.
