The 2019 Colwell Law Scholarship Winner
Meet Our 2019 Single Parent Scholarship Recipient

The Colwell Law Group is proud to announce Mr. James Giacalone as the winner of the 2019 Single Parent Scholarship. We know the importance of education, and are pleased to award this scholarship to someone who has shown ambition and work ethic. We can't wait to see what he will accomplish in the future.

Mr. Giacalone has an impressive 4.28 GPA and is deeply involved in campus activities. His accomplishments include membership in the National Latin Honor Society, being named the vice president of his school’s Model United Nations program, and serving as a voting member of the Class Executive Board. His academic credentials also include maxima cum laude and summa cum laude marks on the National Latin Exam and his school’s highest score in the National Math League Competition.

In his essay, Mr. Giacalone spoke passionately about the challenges and joys of living with a single parent. He comments, “Living in a single-parent household has significantly improved my life, but has often made my education goals seem less likely to come to fruition ... Living [with my mother] allowed for peace of mind that simply hadn’t been possible at any previous point in my life, and, because I had less to worry about, enabled me to be more comfortable and get more happiness outside of home, at school, and when out with friends.”

He plans to attend the University of Rochester, majoring in Political Science, with a goal of pursuing both a Bachelor’s degree and Master’s degree before entering politics. Mr. Giacalone aspires to be a voice for working people in America.
