Cynthia Rintye is an Atlanta based storyteller, actress, writer, director, tour guide, former Queen of All England, zombie trainer, and professional Segway rider.
This year, Cynthia will release her first album, Veil of Time: Ghost Stories from Atlanta. Cynthia first learned about ghosts in Atlanta while training to be a tour guide. Later, while she was leading ghost tours, guests would say, “Let me tell you what happened to me.” Veil of Time is a collection of eight stories based on reported paranormal activity in real places in Atlanta, including the Fabulous Fox Theatre, Underground Atlanta, and the old Georgia Mental Health Institute.
Born and raised in of Decatur, Illinois, Cynthia came to Atlanta to attend Emory University, graduating with a B.A. in Economics in 1983. While at Emory, Cynthia appeared in numerous plays and was a member of Emory’s comedy troupe, Rathskellar, where she wrote, directed and performed sketch comedy. After college, she worked with profession comedy and improv troupes and also appeared in plays, musicals, and murder mysteries in the Atlanta area.
In 1992, Cynthia became part of the Georgia Renaissance Festival. In her sixteen seasons with GARF, Cynthia was Assistant Entertainment Director and Language Director, wrote numerous stage shows including Shakespeare parodies, and portrayed various ladies of the royal court including seven seasons as Queen.
In 2005, Cynthia was introduced to storytelling when she became a guide for the inaugural season of the Lawrenceville GA Ghost Tour (produced by the Aurora Theatre). “On my very first tour, I noticed people leaning towards me to hear my next word. And I thought, ‘I like this.’ I fell in love with storytelling in general and with these stories in particular”.
In 2008, Cynthia became director of the Lawrenceville Ghost Tours, managing five other storytellers each season. Under her watch, the tour has grown to be one of the most popular in the Atlanta metro area. Cynthia has developed two other tours in Lawrenceville including the Haunted Cemetery Tour. She continues to leads tours in Lawrenceville as her spooky alter ego, Madame Macabre.
In 2011, Cynthia created, wrote, and directed Terror on the Trail at Sims Lake Park (in Suwanee) for the Aurora Theatre. Performed for three seasons, TOT featured seven storytellers telling intertwined stories and dozens of teenage zombies who guided guests from storyteller to storyteller on a path around the lake.
In addition to performing, Cynthia is also a tour guide. In the 1990s, Cynthia was a volunteer tour guide for the Atlanta Preservation Center, leading tours of the Fabulous Fox Theatre and Druid Hills. Becoming a professional tour guide in 2008, Cynthia has led tours of Atlanta on Segways and currently is a tour guide for the Atlanta BeltLine Bus Tours.
Cynthia lives in the Grant Park neighborhood of Atlanta with her husband and son.
