The company was founded by two brothers who grew up in rented apartments in Chicago and then set out to simplify the apartment search process. Over the years, Domu has become the largest apartment listing site to focus on Chicago and it’s widely recognized by the local ads that run on public transportation in Chicago.

Domu is derived from the Latin word for home, which is “domus.” It means "home" in Polish, Croatian, Czech, Slovak, Slovenian, and Bosnian.
