About

The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) is the fifth-largest school district in California located in southern Sacramento County. EGUSD covers 320 square miles and includes 65 schools: 40 elementary schools, nine middle schools, nine high schools, five alternative education schools, an adult school, a charter school and a virtual academy. Offering a multitude of educational programs, including over 40 career-themed academies and pathways within 13 industry sectors, we prepare our students for college and career by supporting them with the means to be creative problem solvers; self-aware, self-reliant, and self-disciplined; technically literate; effective communicators and collaborators; and engaged in the community as individuals with integrity. We integrate rigorous academics with career-based learning and real world workplace experiences and strive for having every student learning in every classroom, every subject, every day.

Elk Grove Unified is diverse in its student and staff demographics and 33% of the certificated employees hold master's or doctorate degrees. As of the 2015-16 School year, EGUSD employs 5,863 credentialed and classified dedicated staff who serve 62,888 students daily. The District's operating budget per pupil expenditure is $8,511 with a total general fund adopted budget of $527.70 million.

EGUSD encourages expansion of access Into AP/Honors Programs through eligibility and selection criteria for Gifted and Talented Education (GATE), as well as for Honors and Advanced Placement (AP) courses, that widen the entry for students interested in challenging themselves in programs and courses that help develop the “habits of mind” to support future college and career success.
These criteria aim to equitably and collaboratively engage students and their families and encourage access to rigorous instruction with support for students’ intellectual, social and emotional needs.

The revisions to the selection process and eligibility criteria were made to address concerns that underrepresented students faced several barriers to access and to ensure that consistent practices existed among schools within the district. This new direction strengthens the District’s pursuit to “provide a learning community that challenges ALL students to realize their greatest potential.”

We provide field trip assistance to our neighboring districts when not being used for our own trips and we also provide service for students who have been offloaded from their home school and PSC students or students with a 504 plan that requires transportation.
