Fairfax & Sammons, established in 1992, is an architectural design firm with offices in New York’s historic Greenwich Village and Palm Beach, Florida. Fairfax & Sammons offers the full scope of architectural services including design, construction drawings, and on-site construction administration. The firm is committed to an architecture of tradition and sustainability that offers solutions to contemporary issues, incorporating the belief that buildings be designed appropriately for climate and setting and be tailored to the specific needs of the client. Their body of work reflects theories of proportion and order that have been passed down through scholarship and practice for generations.
Anne Fairfax has designed many new building in traditional styles, restored numerous historic houses in diverse locations such as Barbados, Virginia and Honolulu, the city where she spent her childhood and maintained an architectural practice before moving to New York. Ms. Fairfax serves on the board of the Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America, and the Royal Oak Foundation. She taught at the Prince’s Foundation American Summer School and was the Harrison Visiting Scholar at Georgia Institute of Technology. Today she is the President of the firm, serving as managing partner.  
Richard Sammons has a rich background in traditional period design and is an international recognized expert in the field of architectural proportion, having taught at The Prince of Wales’ Institute of Architecture in London, Pratt Institute in New York and The University of Notre Dame in Rome. His contributions include the foreword for the re-publication of the book “The Theory of Mouldings” by C. Howard Walker. He contributed to the recently published, “Get Your House Right” with a foreword written by Prince Charles. Mr. Sammons began his career in the office of David Anthony Easton in New York, where he worked for several years, and is founding director of The Institute of Classical Architecture & Classical America. Richard is the Vice President of the firm, serving as chief designer.
Anne Fairfax and Richard Sammons are founding partners of the firm, which today comprises of thirty six members. They are both members of the INTBAU College of Traditional Practitioners (ICTP) an international professional body for practitioners in traditional architecture, under the auspices of His Royal Highness, the Prince of Wales. They are the recipients of numerous awards, including the 2013 Arthur Ross Award and their works has been featured in The New York Times, Country Life, Architectural Digest, Southern Accents, Old House Journal, Period Homes, Traditional building and New Old House. Their monograph, “American Houses: The Architecture of Fairfax & Sammons” is published by Rizzoli International.
