Florida Hospital Tampa is a leader in innovative medical procedures and treatment for many issues including women’s health, cancer, pediatrics, diabetes management and orthopedics. Recently, two doctors from the hospital attended the 100th annual American College of Surgeons Conference in Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Sharona Ross and Dr. Alexander Rosemurgy presented two videos regarding Laparo-Endoscopic Single Site(LESS) Toupet Fundoplication for gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and the Standardization of LESS Cholecystectomy (removal of the gallbladder), detailing the steps of this new surgical approach. The audience liked the presentation and asked questions about the doctors’ practice techniques and specialty in Minimally Invasive Surgery. Mentees of the doctors presented two posters focusing on patient perception of women in surgery and gender equality of women surgeons. These are hot topics as more women seek medical careers. Plans are underway for the fourth Annual Women in Surgery Conference hosted by UCSF in San Francisco, California, June7-9, 2013.
