FSSAI is the acronym for the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. It is a legal body offering food license to every type of food business operator i.e. FBO available in India. Accordingly, an FBO must follow the FSSAI rules and regulations to achieve food quality control.
Any FBO should undergo FSSAI registration depending on its production size, operational range, and managing the nature of various food business activities. Once you complete the FSSAI registration process, you get a 14-digit number, which you must print on your food packages.
Types of Food License as per FSSAI
FBOs have to apply under FSSAI to get FSSAI food license according to their business scale, turnover, and specific activity, which include the following-
Basic Registration
The FSSAI basic registration is for all start-ups and small-sized FBOs, who have their yearly turnover up to Rs 12lacs. However, the registration also depends on the productivity and sales graph of a business.
State License
FSSAI State license is available for medium-size FBOs with annual turnover from Rs. 12laca to Rs 20crores.
Central License
FSSAI Central License is for every type of FBO, who operatesa large business and hasan annual turnover of more than Rs 20crores. Central food license is also applicable for FBOs, who have to supply their products to government offices or have to export/import their food products.
Therefore, the FSSAI license makes sure that each type of food product undergoes the necessary quality checks and reduces the problem of substandard products or adulteration.
