About

There are many reasons that we chose the name Great Escape for our company.  Great Escape Farms is the name of our farm, company, as well as our website.  We provide you with free information in the form of blogs, videos, and podcasts on unusual edible plants, food forests, permaculture, and homesteading.  We offer educational and consulting services.  We offer well rooted cuttings from unusual edible plants.

The words Great Escape to “many” means getting away from something – like the busy cities and suburbs, the corporate rat race, or the GMO and chemical ridden produce in the supermarkets that are grown in an unsustainable way.  We agree with the “many” and are embarking on our Great Escape.  Our farm sits in a rural area of West Virgina where country living operates at its own pace.  We are trying to get back to the basics of growing at least some of our own food in a healthy and sustainable way.

We have enjoyed the Great Escape away from the same old same old fruits and vegetables such as apples and green beans grown in a mono-culture fashion.  We enjoy salads with additions of Lemon Balm, Borage, and other herbs and vegetables.  We enjoy fruit fresh in had from Nanking Cherry and Elderberry bushes.  Using poly-culture techniques and permaculture principles plants can be grown in a sustainable fashion without the need for constant applications of chemical fertilizers and weed killers.
