About

Located at 500 meters above sea level, Refugio Mira Piedras was created to preserve some natural areas, encourage wildlife, protect the streams, and try to give something back to the Earth. We are promoting a small, sustainable community of no more than ten lots, from 1/2 to 6 acres, at affordable prices. Access to the Nature Reserve is limited to Lot owners and their invited guests; all guests must be accompanied by a Lot owner.

By limiting the sizes of the lots to the actual area one would need to use for home, pool, and gardens, we are able to provide more than 50 acres of beautiful Reserve for the mutual enjoyment of the flora, fauna, and residents of the community. Two orchard areas are planted with many types of indigenous fruit trees, including Mangos, Oranges, Bananas, Plantains, Tangerines, Limes, Lemons, Marmol China, Avocado, and many others.

Water for the community is provided by a natural spring, protected from contamination by a large concrete spring box, and pumped up to the highest point on the farm. From there it is distributed to the lots. Electricity is provided along the internal farm road. The road is constructed with adequate drainage, and is well-maintained.

It is our sincere desire to find like-minded people to share our dreams of creating a sustainable lifestyle in this area of Costa Rica, one of the most unspoiled, beautiful and peaceful countries in Central America. We have been successful in the last ten years at attracting many species of animals, including White-faced Capuchin and Howler Monkeys, to return to the area. While 25 years ago this was a producing (subsistence level) family farm, it is now heavily forested. There is a beautiful creek along the northern border of the property. Incredible views of the mountains and rivers below are available from all lots. Fresh breezes keep the area cool, and the peaks behind to the west block the late afternoon tropical sun.
